CHIEF PLANT OPERATOR – W/WW

DEFINITION STATEMENT

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks and provides manual labor for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and construction on roadways, storm sewers & drainage structures, buildings, and other public facilities. Drives and operates several types of vehicles, and light to medium-duty equipment related to the task assigned.

DUTIES – EXAMPLES OF WORK

Assist’s other workers, and independently performs a variety of inspection, maintenance, repair, and construction related tasks on equipment and engines, buildings and facilities, ditches and drains, fences, sidewalks and gutters, and all other public right-of-ways, including highways, streets, roads, alleys, and bridges. May form and pour concrete; Will service street lighting, maintain street signage, and paint street markings. May provide snow and ice removal, and sand/salt streets during inclement weather events; May operate various types of hand tools, machinery, equipment, and vehicles up to 2 ½ ton ratings, including; pick-up truck, dump truck, tractor, loader, skid steer, air compressor, jack hammer, concrete saw, mower, chipper, and snow removal to complete tasks. May perform maintenance and general housekeeping duties on buildings, grounds, and facilities; Will perform minor maintenance to equipment and vehicles, including; operational checks, fluid level inspections, and cleanliness. Employee is expected to share in the “on-call” responsibilities and respond to after-hour emergencies. May clean garage/shop, haul rock and recycle, load materials, trim trees and shrubs, and apply weed control and fertilizer. This is only an “example” of work duties, employee will be expected and required to perform other job-related duties as assigned by their supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Should have some knowledge of the methods, practices, and standards for the maintenance, repair, and construction of public roads, facilities, and other infrastructure; Physical ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor; Capability of learning operation and light maintenance of equipment and vehicles used in performance of job duties; Must have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving history, and access to personal transportation; Must be able to clearly communicate in written and verbal format with co-workers, supervisor, and the public.

TRAINING & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A High School diploma or equivalent is required. Minimal experience as a laborer or other semi-skilled position performing construction and/or maintenance duties is necessary. Must currently possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class “B”, or have ability to obtain such within 6 months from start of employment, and a safe driving history and access to personal transportation.
