DEFINITION STATEMENT Under direct supervision, performs a variety of general unskilled manual work in the construction and maintenance of roads, streets, utilities, parks, drainage facilities and structures, and other facilities.
DUTIES – EXAMPLES OF WORK Excavates and backfills trenches with hand tools; loads and unloads trucks with heavy material; shovels snow, asphalt, cinder, rock, sand, ad gravel; spreads and rakes asphalt; sweeps streets; picks up debris and other refuse and places into truck or car; operates mechanisms for loading, compressing, and dumping materials; directs traffic; may wash interior and exterior or equipment; cleans garage and tools; mows grass, trims and cares for plants, shrubs and trees; may on occasion operate light equipment incidental to assigned duties; observes drains and culverts for flow and clear and cleans; cuts, removes and loads trees; may assist in week control operations; paints fixtures, posts, and similar facilities; performs related duties.
QUALIFICATIONS Good physical condition; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Any combination of experience and training equivalent to completion of the eighth grade; some prior experience in laboring or in construction work is desirable. Sixteen years of age or older. No operation of city vehicles unless in possession of a valid commercial driver’s license.
Part Time, Hourly Salary Range: $15.90 per Hour Grade C
