QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, emergency management, public administration, education, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in school safety, law enforcement, emergency management, military, education, or a related field preferred.

  3. Knowledge of school safety best practices, emergency operations planning, incident command systems (ICS), and security technologies. Background of training and experience in the following areas is preferred: emergency response, security, or supervision.

  4. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  5. Must have ability to lift 70 lbs to shoulder height occasionally, ability to climb stairs on a regular basis, and ability to watch camera monitors daily.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. District Safety Leadership

    1. Coordinate and oversee the district's comprehensive safety and security program.

    2. Develop, implement, and annually review district safety, security, and emergency operations plans.

    3. Coordinate district emergency preparedness activities, drills, tabletop exercises, and crisis response planning.

    4. Serve as the district liaison with local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency management agencies, and other public safety partners.

  2. Security Operations

    1. Assume responsibility for district-wide security systems, including access control, key management, security cameras, alarms, and related technologies.

    2. Provide administrators with video evidence and security documentation to support investigations involving student discipline, employee matters, or safety concerns.

    3. Monitor security system functionality and coordinate repairs or upgrades as needed.

    4. Coordinate security planning for district events and activities.

  3. Emergency Response

    1. Coordinate district response during emergencies.

    2. Staff or coordinate the district Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated.

    3. Coordinate emergency communications and notifications with district leadership and responding agencies.

    4. Participate in after-action reviews and recommend improvements following emergency incidents.

    5. Coordinate emergency communications, including receiving emergency notifications and communicating with district personnel and responding emergency agencies.

  4. Training

    1. Provide safety and security training for district employees.

    2. Coordinate required emergency drills in accordance with Missouri law.

    3. Assist building administrators in conducting building safety assessments.

  5. Supervision/Coordination

    1. Coordinate schedules and deployment of School Resource Officers (SROs) in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies to provide appropriate district coverage during the school day and at district-sponsored activities.

  6. Additional Responsibilities

    1. Conduct routine safety and security inspections of district facilities.

    2. Coordinate visitor management procedures and building access protocols.

    3. Maintain required safety documentation and reports.

    4. Assist with safety-related grants and compliance reporting.

    5. Make recommendations regarding district safety improvements, equipment, and procedures.

    6. Participate on district threat assessment and crisis response teams.

    7. Maintain confidentiality regarding investigations and security information.

OTHER PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Follows Board policies, administrative procedures, and applicable state and federal laws.

  2. Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

  3. Attends required meetings and professional development.

  4. Works flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and emergency call-outs as needed.

  5. Maintains confidentiality regarding personnel, students, investigations, and security matters.

  6. Demonstrates professionalism and positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, law enforcement, and community partners.

  7. Prepares reports and maintains records as assigned.

  8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Operations.
